Nursery Inspiration Board

I was going to add more stuff to my inspiration board for the baby's room but I didn't feel like it. I figured I could just link to extra stuff that isn't in the image below. Ok, let's get started on where I'm getting everything and what I'm doing...

1. Wildflower Honey by Behr
2. Silver Screen by Behr

Both colors will be used on the main wall as stripes. Then the rest of the walls will be in the Silver Screen. You can view both colors on Behr's website by clicking Find Your Color in the drop down menu and simply entering the names, if you wanted.

A. Sunvik Crib by IKEA - $119.00
I really wanted a simple white crib. Really, all white furniture and obviously from IKEA. Last time around when we had Gracie, my parents got us the crib but it was several hundred dollars and she used it for about 2 years and then she was out of it and I just think spending that much money is such a waste when they aren't in for that long anyway. It does eventually convert to a full size bed, but only the headboard is needed, everything else just ends up in the trash. So, to me it's just not worth it. She's been in a twin sized bed since she was 2 1/2.

B. Brimnes 3 drawer chest by IKEA - $99.00
I definitely wanted a dresser that I could use later in life as baby grows and this works just fine. Plus I also wanted to be able to put a changing pad on the dresser and avoid having to use a changing table since there isn't any room for said changing table. This works perfectly.

C. Accent Slipper Chair / Gray Chevron by Target - $110.00
This is the one thing that I'm unsure about. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this chair but when it comes time to breastfeed I know I'll want a chair with arms. I'll want to be as comfortable as possible. The price is great and I love the pattern and the style. Anyone know someone who adds arms to chairs? Wishful thinking. I'm going to be on the hunt for the perfect chair matched with the perfect price so hopefully I can find something like this but WITH arms. Sigh.

D. Custom Made Crib Bedding by Wise Fingers @ Etsy - $265.00
This is where I'm going to splurge a little. I fell in love with the custom bedding idea a long time ago even before I was pregnant. It's the one thing I want to spend money on and damn it, I'm going to! The patterns in the image above are what I'm shooting for, in which order for which pieces I'm unsure about at this point. I'll be getting the crib sheet, crib skirt and crib bumper. Loves it!

E. Cardboard Elephant head - $13.00
It's pretty well known if you've been reading my blog for awhile or know me at all that I'm a tad obsessed with Elephants. When I found these Elephant cardboard heads I think I squealed. It's that serious. They come in a few different sizes. I'm going with the smallest one, which is 6w x 6h x 6d. It's perfect for our tiny little baby's room. I'm in love!

F. Nursery Art by WiseOwl Prints & DaphneGraphics
These are just a couple of the art pieces from Etsy that I'm currently hoping to get. I have a bunch of other free printables with elephants already saved to my computer.

G. Chevron Elephant Pillow - $20.99
More Elephants. No surprises there! When I saw this pillow I instantly fell in love and knew it was the one. Isn't it so cute?

Other things I want to add not in the inspiration board: Elephant Crib Quilt, Yellow Chevron Valence, Elephant Mobile, Diaper Caddy, Expedition Travel System - Merlin.

That's it for now. Feel free to check everything out and tell me what you think! Thanks for reading. :)

finishin' the kitchen

I'll finally have some pictures of the finished kitchen for you guys in the next couple weeks. We're going tomorrow to buy the bead board for the back splash from Home Depot. Then we'll work on getting it put into place.

But to hold you over until the final reveal of the kitchen being completely finished (on one side! still gotta work on the floor to ceiling cabinets and window seat as mentioned here) I figured I'd go ahead and show you the process of painting the cabinets from white to navy blue.

This is what they looked like originally, before the paint. You can also see the old countertops in this picture too.

One thing I learned thanks to internet searching is to put a pushpin at all four corners of the cabinet doors before painting so that they don't stick to whatever you lay them on, for example news paper or plastic sheets or whatever you choose to use.

First I primed them with KILZ primer. I did two coats of primer, after cleaning them. Most people use a special cleaner before painting cabinets but I didn't have anything like that, so I just used Windex and paper towels. This is after two coats of primer.

It says on the can to let it dry for 30 minutes in between each coat but I waited about an hour in between, just to be sure it was dry. Then I started painting with the color I picked Deep Blue Sea by Behr. This is after one coat I think. I did three.

This is after I finished painting the final coat of the blue. It was still wet in this picture, which is why it's so shiny.

Annnd this is the finished product. I figured I'd go ahead and show you the new counter tops too. If you look at the walls behind the sink area, under the top cabinets, which I also painted a light grey color & the wall behind the stove, that is where the bead board will be going. I'll probably be painting that white.

Here is a wider view of the kitchen. The bead board will be behind the fridge & oven as well.

We got the counter at Ikea, of course. You can check it out on their website here. The countertops are also a greyish silver color. They match everything so perfectly. I was originally going to do a dark wood countertop but once I saw these, I changed my mind instantly because the color was perfect! I'm really happy with these countertops. They are SO EASY to keep clean!! I'm very happy with them.

If you have any questions about this process at all, feel free to ask me about it!

paint it pink!

Over the weekend, I decided I wanted to give Gracie's room the old moving things around treatment like I did with my bedroom. Her Tv has been in the same spot for a year which meant I could really only move her bed to a couple spots so that she could still see it, so I decided to move that too. You can check out the way her room used to look, before you see how it is now. I actually like it a lot more this way. It seems to really fit better this way & she has lots of room to twirl in her Princess dresses when she plays dress-up. That definitely makes her a happy camper!

Yeah, still haven't gotten a new curtain rod yet. It's on the to-do list tho! We also removed her Princess barbie castle from her room because it was just a giant mess in there. So we moved it to her play house outside. She likes it better there anyway!

I put little hooks in her wall for her to be able to hang her Princess dresses. She has a bunch! It fits well under her Princess poster.

This wall is at the foot of her bed. The pink curtains really make it feel more girly in there.

This wall, we decided we're going to paint pink. A lighter pink then the pink we painted her door with today... Another Saturday project!

So anyway. Today we painted the back of her bedroom door hot pink! It's so cute. She's been asking me for oh.. a year to paint her door pink. It was the only spot in the room that I didn't paint after I painted the room green, a year ago. I thought we might get all new interior doors within the last year but yeah didn't happen. Not that it was that important anyway. Her door is fine.

Here is the newly painted pink door. Gracie helped too! I still need to do some touch ups on the molding with white paint. I'll probably do that Saturday after I paint her wall pink.

So yes, now I have a task for the weekend... already! lol. Gotta paint her closet wall pink! I actually just used pink I had laying around from years ago, but didn't have a lot of the darker (hot) pink, so I mixed a bunch of light pink with it and came up with this lighter easier on the eyes pink for the wall. I couldn't imagine that HOT pink on a wall. A WHOLE WALL. No way! hahahaha. It's fine for the back of a door tho. haha.

In other news, I got some pretty exciting news today! I'll share it when I know more. Until then, thanks for stopping by! :)

Bathroom is finished!

So glad to finally be able to post pictures of the bathroom in all it's finished glory! I'm so over the moon in love with it, I find myself just walking in, turning the light on, looking at everything, smiling and walking out. I love it that much! See for yourself!

A preview of the paint color. I actually picked out both paint colors at Home Depot, but had them made at Lowes.

View of the sink wall, top part.

Lower part.

After I added the tooth brush bin & soap. ;)

Shower curtain, upper part.

Lower part. I have plans on turning the rug, after I add the new door. The current one is too low & won't allow the door to open or close with it turned long ways. Boo.

Main wall. Love those hooks! Art still needs to be bought and added.

Towel ring & art by the sink. Love!

That's it! Love it so much!

There are still a few things here and there I need to add that will come in time.

~ Shelves for over the toilet
~ A few more towels
~ More art for the walls, mostly the main wall
~ A new door (working on that this week!)

But that's really it. I decided that I actually really like the black & white floor in the bathroom now. It really meshes well, so I'm gonna keep it. Hey, that's more money in my pocket!

So, whatcha think?! Feel free to comment!

hi ho hi ho, off to ikea we go!

Today we made our way to Ikea to pick up the bathroom goodies I mentioned in my last post. I was actually right on the money on how much we'd spend (on our first trip... hehe!) & I got everything I needed. I have to go back & pickup more towels, a new shower rod (to hang the curtain), a new mirror & cabinet for over the toilet & maaaybe a few more decorations and/or frames/art. But, this first trip was a success, so that's all I care about! Everything will fall into place in time.

I also finally picked out which paint colors I'm going to use. I chose Behr Premium Plus | Tangerine Dream & Jamaican Sea from Home Depot. I don't think images do the colors justice, because they are a tad brighter looking in person & just so beautiful! They really pop & stand out. Here is a couple of images I found on google of these two colors on walls.

Preeetty, riight? Love them! It really was love at first sight, no doubt about it. I knew right away when I spotted these that they were the ones meant for my bathroom walls. I also decided on this design for how I'm going to paint the bathroom. The Tangerine Dream will be on the top (ceiling, top of the wall) and then the Jamaican Sea will be the second half, the bead board will be white, as well as all the trim.

Tomorrow I'm going to start ripping all of the tiles off the walls, more on that here. Then hopefully next week I'll be able to go pickup the paint, molding & bead board, as well as other little random things we need to DIY.

BTW, as you can tell my obsession for all things orange & teal has taken over my blog. I had to change my layout to reflect my mood & love for these amazing colors! I also Pinned some of my favorite orange & teal design combos on Pinterest! Check it out! Hope you all have a great week!
