A Happy DIY Halloween!

It's my favorite holiday! Isn't Halloween just the best? As originally thought, I wasn't going to dress up today but then when I figured out I could get my entire costume that I wanted to do together under 6 bucks, I decided, what the hay! I ultimately decided a while back that I wanted to dress as Rosie the Riveter. For those of you who don't know who she is, she's a icon for woman during WWII who was put all over posters to encourage woman to go to work while the men fought the war. She's a major feminist icon! Which only means that I HAD to be her. This is what I'll look like...

But you might know her better as this... in all her original glory.

I decided that since I would only be wearing it once I'd just check out thrift stores, because what's the point in buying a brand new jean shirt, I'll never wear again? So, off we went on the hunt for Rosie clothes. I got lucky and found the perfect jean shirt for $3.99 at Thrift City USA and then after looking at more than 5 stores, I found a red bandana. I really looked hard for the red with white polka dots but it was impossible to find! I found black & white and pink & white but no luck on red & white. So, I settled for red. I got that on sale at Michael's for $1.98! Talk about a steal!

So, costume totals... $3.99 for the shirt & $1.98 for the bandana + tax = $6.01

I'll obviously wear jeans I already have and use makeup I already have, so money saved on those two things! Anyway, I'm excited to dress up tonight and walk around with the kids. Should be a good time!

In other Halloween news, Gracie & I decided we'd do a glitter pumpkin this year. This is how you do it.

Supplies needed:
- Glitter
- Glue (you can use spray adhesive, but I ran out so I used wallpaper glue & it worked fine)
- Newspaper (to keep area clean)

Put the glue all over the Pumpkin and then shake the glitter all over. Make sure to have a clean piece of paper under the pumpkin so when the excess glitter falls off you can reuse it. Repeat the process until all of pumpkin is covered.

It's really that simple! This is what it looked like when she was finished.

And of course she chose pink! But really, you could do orange or black or any color you wanted! That's all for now. Have a Happy & safe Halloween!

PS. Sending love to the North East who were effected by super storm Sandy! <3

Thifting & Gardening

First things first, I hit 2,000 hits today! Woo! Thanks to everyone who keeps coming back & to all the new visitors everyday. Means a lot!

Yesterday, Paul & I did our regular Sunday routine. We got up, went to brunch and then thrifting. I usually come up empty but this time was different! I found three dishes/bowls for .80 cents a piece! Did you get that? Eighty cents. I call that a steal! They are super cute, multi color decorative dishes. Here, take a look...

Sorry for the bad lighting & blah quality. I still don't have access to my Nikon. So, these once again were taken with my Nokia.

And here is a up close shot. They're cute right?

Today I went outside and took pictures (with my crappy phone camera) of the front garden so you could see the flowers we have growing in there now. I'm pretty proud of myself, I usually would have killed all of them already. I don't have much of a green thumb. To be completely honestly, I'm not much of an outdoorsy person. I'd much rather decorate the inside of a house and completely ignore the outside but since I'm a home owner, these things have to be done no matter how much I'd rather not do it. Honesty is key right? I'm just keepin' it real, people.

Anyway, here you go! We still need to add little things like mulch and whatnot but it definitely looks better than it did when we first started this project.

And a wide shot of the front yard. Grass is still growing in. By mid-July it will look so green, you won't even remember those dead patches of grass.

And no I still haven't moved those two trees to the right of the garden. See what I mean when I said I'd rather just ignore anything to do with outside? It shows here. hahha. I have no shame! ;)

Hopefully by my next post I'll have a working camera... err battery for said camera. Fingers crossed!

More thrify finds

On Sunday, like every Sunday, the hubs & I checked out our usual thrift store for some goodies. I found a few things I liked but only wound up getting one thing. Because honestly, if I got everything I liked every time I went somewhere, my car would be full & we'd have no money. lol.

Anyway, this week I found a lamp! I love lamp. No really, I so do! This lamp will definitely have to be painted a different color being that I loath the color purple. I'm thinking maybe yellow or a light blue, since I'll be putting it in the living room after the re-do, in the Spring. Yay!

Find anything good while thrifting this weekend? Share away!

(I'll be back later in the week with a bathroom update! We went today & got everything we needed & start ripping out the old toilet & sink tomorrow! Weee!)

thrify finds

How was everyone's Thanksgiving break? Ours was really good filled with yummy food made by my amazing Mother & lots of family time. All the things that make Thanksgiving great! Speaking of my mom, feel free to check out her crafty blog. I recently made her a new layout! :)

Every Sunday, my hubs & I go to brunch at our favorite local hole in the wall restaurant & then hit up some thrift stores. Most of the time I don't find anything, but every once in a while I'll strike gold! Thrifty gold! This Sunday I found this amazing blue vase or jar or whatever you wanna call it. Either way, it's beautiful! I can't wait to put in my newly decorated living room, in the Spring! I also found this amazing glass water bottle, that I actually saw the night before when we went out to eat at Macaroni Grill. I jokingly said to Paul, 'I want one of these. Let's ask to buy one!' Apparently, the universe knew how badly I loved this glass bottle because when we went thrifting it was on a shelf, waiting for me to find it! Thankfully, Paul found it & ran to me with excitement, where we both danced around happily at our thrift find! Ok, not really, but you get the idea.

Aren't they awesome? I've been looking for things to put on shelves in the living room, after I redesign the room in the Spring & I'm so glad I found something to start me off with! I hope to find more things in blues & yellows, the theme I'll be using in the living room. I can't believe it's almost time to go crazy decorator on my living room/dining room & kitchen in the next few months! I'm so excited!

Do you love thrifting too? What's a great thrift find, you've found recently? Share away!
