Moving things around.

Earlier this week I felt the urge to rearrange my bedroom. We actually moved everything around because we were tired of it looking like this. Mostly because I can't really clean anything until I move it and clean all around it and behind it. Something I learned from my mother. The bed was on the other window wall in our room, but I wanted to move it back to the lime green wall. So, I did.

I also took the curtains down, washed them and rehung them in slightly different places.

In the meantime, I wanted to completely move the vanity, dresser & everything on those walls. A little tid-bit about my bedroom walls... They are solid concrete with some sort of plaster coating over them, so if you put a nail or a screw into those walls, it won't hold well, so they are a bitch to hang shelves on. We really rigged the shelves that we had up pretty crazily. So, I figured it was time for them to go.

Yup, I moved my Yankees Boys art to my bedroom. You might remember it from the living room reveal post. I decided I wanted it in my room because the black & white theme is actually in my bedroom, not in the living area. I want a new piece of art for the hallway wall.

And then there's the vanity. I moved her to the wall where the dresser was.

I feel like the room flows really well this way. I'm happy with it!

Another thing I never got to show you guys is the art we got for the new bathroom. Remember that bare orange wall? She's not bare anymore!

Don't mind the crazy angles. It's really hard to take pictures in that little bathroom!

Both art pieces are from IKEA... dur. Like I'd go anywhere else?! You can view them both on IKEA's website here & here. The second I laid my eyes on them, I knew where they were meant to go! They match the shower curtain so perfectly, it's almost like they were meant to go with that shower curtain. Hell, maybe they are!

We also added this little guy to the tub...

Naturally, Gracie loves him! Since she's the one who takes the most baths in this house, she gets to sit on him and play in the tub even longer now since he's so soft and cushiony.

Ok, this isn't house related but I just need to share these last two pictures with you guys. My cat Max (named after Gracie's favorite show Max & Ruby) sleeps like a human. Everyday. I'm not kidding.

He even sleeps with his mouth open, like Paul does.

I swear, this cat is a human in a cats body. Sometimes we joke & say he's Paul's dad, reincarnated to watch over us... or sometimes we say he's my bestfriend Brandon, who died a year ago, Monday. Max won't be a year old till July, so maaaaybe. ;) Either way, he's so unique & silly & gosh I just love him as if he were my own child. He's so special to me. <3

Put your name on it

So, how was everyone's weekend? Mine was pretty uneventful, which is a good thing, because for the first time in the past couple months, I finally was able to relax a little. But that doesn't mean I didn't do anything at all. I've been putting off painting the bathroom & lining closet doors for a few months now & since I finally had some down time, I figured I might as well get it done already.

Still need new door knobs on all the doors on this side of the house. We'll get there!

A couple months back I painted the kids doors & added a chalkboard name plate to the front of the doors, so they could write their names on their doors. Even tho I was the one who wound up doing it. I guess they both liked what I wrote so much, neither one of them have ever changed it.

This is how I did it...

Cut a piece of paper to the shape I wanted to paint on the door.

Held the paper to the door and traced an outline with a pencil, then removed the paper, added painters tape so I wouldn't go outside the lines and painted with chalkboard paint.

Let it dry and then wrote the kids names with chalk in their favorite colors. That's it! It was super simple.

And kids doors up close, for a better look.

It didn't cost me a thing since I already had all of the supplies, which is always good! I'm undecided as to if I should add a name plate to the bathroom door & write bathroom / restroom on it as well. What do you think? Name plate or no name plate? Sound off in the comments!! I'd love to hear opinions!

Bathroom is finished!

So glad to finally be able to post pictures of the bathroom in all it's finished glory! I'm so over the moon in love with it, I find myself just walking in, turning the light on, looking at everything, smiling and walking out. I love it that much! See for yourself!

A preview of the paint color. I actually picked out both paint colors at Home Depot, but had them made at Lowes.

View of the sink wall, top part.

Lower part.

After I added the tooth brush bin & soap. ;)

Shower curtain, upper part.

Lower part. I have plans on turning the rug, after I add the new door. The current one is too low & won't allow the door to open or close with it turned long ways. Boo.

Main wall. Love those hooks! Art still needs to be bought and added.

Towel ring & art by the sink. Love!

That's it! Love it so much!

There are still a few things here and there I need to add that will come in time.

~ Shelves for over the toilet
~ A few more towels
~ More art for the walls, mostly the main wall
~ A new door (working on that this week!)

But that's really it. I decided that I actually really like the black & white floor in the bathroom now. It really meshes well, so I'm gonna keep it. Hey, that's more money in my pocket!

So, whatcha think?! Feel free to comment!

Bathroom progress!

Phew, I have been so busy this week I never got to post about the bathroom remodel. I'm not completely done yet. I still need to finish painting the final color, hang the mirror, towel hooks & shower curtain. I also need to scrub the floor and shower walls. Still a little ways to go, but we're getting closer and closer to being finished! I'll have everything done today. :)

Eventually, within the next couple months I plan on putting in new flooring. But, that can always wait, my current floor is ok & still kinda matches pretty well, so I'm in no rush to change it. All good things come to those who wait. :)

Here are some photos to catch you up, some befores & a few afters. Still not completely done, keep that in mind. Just some pictures along the way.

This was where the sink & toilet were. The wall just fell apart. Not good. But we fixed it!

The old mirror was a built in and I haaated it. So glad to see it gone. This is the carnage left behind.

And with it filled in with sheet rock.

New beadboard walls! Sink area.

AAAAND NEW SINK! Yay!

New sink and toilet!

The new light! lovelovelove!

The main wall.

Beadboard on tub & view from hallway.

Ceiling color.

Ceiling before.

Ceiling after! Love it!

Beadboard painted!

Main wall painted!

Tub painted!

Welp, that's it for now! I'll be back soon with complete after pictures! Stay tuned! I'd love to hear what you think so far in the comments! Don't be shy! :)

Demo-riffic!

I started demoing the bathroom yesterday. Taking tiles down one by one with my chizzle & hammer. It was definitely anything but an easy process because every single tile came down in pieces. I think I got maybe 3 tiles to come down in once piece. Needless to say my bathroom floor was a mess. As well as my hands & leg, where the pieces of tile cut me several times. Stupid tile! So happy to see it go! Here are a few images of my work along the way...

This is what I started with, to refresh your memory.

This is about 3 rows in. See. All pieces. No full size tiles. Blah.

The beginning of the mess.

After knocking a few tiles down, my leg started to hurt. I looked down & BAM first battle wound of the project. I currently have added about 6 more wounds to myself. My hands are not happy campers.

Then half way through finishing, the wall caves in. Awesome. So, I just knocked all of that piece of the wall out. I'll replace it with more sheet rock when I finish taking down the rest of the tiles.

One wall done, One and a half to go!

My handy man/contractor/dad (haha!) came today to check everything out & give me a few tips. We determined that we're going to have to replace the sink & toilet since the previous contractor built the tiled walls first & then installed everything else, meaning everything is connected or attached in some way. What a mess! But, lucky for me, I have a deep deep hate for the current sink & toilet in there so I'll be happy to see both of those go as well. I've always wanted a sink & cabinet in there since day one, so looks like I'll actually get my way. Hubs on the other hand? He's not too thrilled, since he's the one footing the bill. Ahh well, it had to go at some point right? ;)

Today I'll be working on the rest of the walls & working on removing the old mirror/cabinet. Let's hope we don't come across anymore snags along the way!
